Residency

The riteonthebeach festival is our flagship event which acts as a springboard to launch our year. It depends on volunteers from the universities and National youth service corps who attend a symposium where experts in various disciplines such as law, governance, web 3, finance, conservation, ecotourism, urban planning and nongovernmental organizations are invited to address the volunteers who are required to have passed our ESG course to secure a spot.

The residency includes a 12.9km hike along the shoreline where the volunteers collect data every km to compare with the baseline created by the first cohorts in 2021, this data is analyzed and forms the foundation on which our programs are designed. In addition two other projects are carried out one considers the local ecosystem and the other is a paper drawing on the talks delivered and the deliberations at the symposium.

The participants are also required to have read past reports and are selected to attend a 6 day residency on the beach based on their understanding of the project . In 2023, 575 applicants made the short list and 30 volunteers were selected to participate.

Lagos is blessed to have such a unique piece of wilderness on the doorstep of one of the major urban centers globally. In this, there lies the opportunity for creating a carbon asset, a tourism asset and a research base to try and conserve existing bio-diversity, save our fisheries and the communities we depend on for this soft capital while creating financial solutions for our infrastructural problems in the city bringing about behavioral change and shifting perceptions locally and globally.

We encourage our young volunteers and participants in the residency program; To listen to the best information we could collate from a group of experts drawn from diverse fields, and take the baton from the previous years who’s theme “flight or flourish” identified opportunities amidst the chaos and make those opportunities “future proof” using the intricacies of the law as a guide. The work from past years form the basis for collaboration and development for the current year ensuring continued progress and growth.
