Plastic Renaissance

This is your invitation to join a bold, community-led solution to one of world’s most urgent environmental crises.

We are launching a public crowdfunding campaign to build Lagos’ first coastal recycling and innovation hub: A modular space where local youth, scientists, designers and artists come together to turn art into finished products e.g Tiles. Keeping it out of the waste stream for extended periods and showing plastic does not belong in landfills or our beaches.

Why It Matters

Plastic pollution is choking our oceans and undermining livelihoods. But existing recycling systems are centralized making them disconnected from our communities, thereby making recycling the expensive choice. Our model is designed for the edge Lagos, off grid and open to all.

• We will train and employ young people from underserved coastal communities.
• We will create long-lasting materials like roofing tiles, floor tiles, eye-glasses frames and paving blocks.
• Our residencies will expand to include environmental scientist, architects and artists to prototype new solutions.
• We will share our findings with partners across the region.

What your Support Builds

We are raising N100 million (approx. $65,000 USD) to:

• To be used in restructuring the building to suit its functions, equip it with electricity, and put a roof over it.
• Launch training programs for local youths in waste management and eco-design.
• Support the Riteonthebeach program focused on Plastic innovation and meeting our SDG targets.
• Document and publish our findings as open source resources for other communities.
